The Playmakers organization, its coaches, and its parents are committed to spiritual and moral growth of our boys and girls in Nashville and its surrounding areas. We are also committed to creating an environment through the discipline of basketball where kids can develop into young men and women who are good citizens, as well as, role models in their family, schools, and community. To this end, the Playmakers pursue the following specific goals:
To promote positive character, respect for coaches and players, self-discipline, and commitment to community
To encourage academic excellence in school
To learn appropriate competitive behavior and commitment to team play and sportsmanship
To provide an environment for sharpening individual basketball fundamental skills and playing abilities
To create exposure opportunities for Playmaker athletes to earn academic/basketball scholarships to higher education institutions
History
The Tennessee Playmakers Organization was founded by Markus Gibbs in 2011. The Tennessee Playmakers Youth Basketball program is a subordinate under the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU). The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is one of the largest, non-profit, volunteer, sports organizations in the United States. A multi-sport organization, the AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs. The purpose of the AAU Boys' Basketball Program is to initiate, stimulate, and improve opportunities for amateur boys' basketball competition, and to promote and develop leadership, sportsmanship, physical fitness, educational opportunities, and athletic excellence.
